Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine directed the appeals to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the State Committee on Water Resources Policy of Ukraine with the request to investigate the matters of Kyiv Water-Storage Basin drain that caused great loss of fish.
As it was informed by the mass media, the drain of the Kyiv water-storage basin caused great loss of fish in Kyiv region. According to the information supplied by the mass media, open joint stock company "Ukrhidroenerho" took the indicated measures to prevent the dangerous consequences of the spring flood. In the result of such measures, the water level in Kyiv water-storage basin was reduced to such a rate that the ice fall down and pressed fish to a basin floor. The mass media named one of the possible reasons for such actions of "Ukrhidroenerho". As it was briefed, the water level was reduced lest the numerous houses in Koncha-Zaspi regions are flooded because of the high water during spring.
M. Tomenko in his appeal indicated that the representatives of the State Committee on Fish Industry of Ukraine even failed to calculate the damages caused by the drain as it forms several tones of fish and emphasized that if the water level was not raised, the ecological disaster should take place: all the living instances would die out on shoal water and soon we would face the danger of water poisoning in Dnipro river.
The Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine requested the supervision bodies to immediately investigate the facts regarding the Kyiv Water-Storage Basin drain that almost caused an ecological disaster.
